Description from the seller
Telescoping Art Deco cigarette dispenser in Bakelite and Brass – Barman / Cocktail Theme (1930s)
Magnificent and rare mechanical (or telescoping) Art Deco cigarette dispenser from the era (circa 1930).
This highly decorative and playful desk object is a pure testament to the hedonistic aesthetic of the "Roaring Twenties" and the world of cocktail bars between the wars.
Design & Operation:
Telescoping mechanism: By gently pulling the metal figurine upward, the tray rises to deploy a crown (or umbrella) presentation system in gilded brass, originally designed to hold cigarettes.
Theme "Barman": The grip is topped with a superb cut-out chrome-plated silhouette representing a bartender in a tuxedo shaking a shaker.
Miniature details: The upper tray (tortoiseshell effect) is adorned with charming miniature metal bar accessories (shaker, small stemmed glasses, goblets).
Noble materials of the era: Cylindrical body in brown marbled Bakelite (tortoiseshell effect), gilded brass parts, nickel/chrome-plated metal and a weighted brass base.
Specifications:
Era: 1930s (Art Deco)
Materials: Bakelite, brass, chrome-nickel plated metal
Condition: Very good overall aesthetic condition for its age. The telescoping mechanism works perfectly. Gorgeous patina on the brass (see photos for details).
Modern use: Ideal for vintage bar decoration on a side table, or for a collector of tobacco-related items (tobacciana) and old bar accessories (barware).
