Born in Barcelona in 1913.
Studied at a local art school in his hometown from age 12 to 18.
In 1932, during the Spanish Civil War, he sided with the Republic and went into exile in France.
Worked as a stage designer in Paris and London.
Received a special prize from the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1944.
In 1946, he was responsible for stage sets at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, the Opéra de Paris, and others.
He was drawn to Rembrandt, Goya, Bonnard, Rouault, and Picasso;
in particular, his encounter with Picasso had a major influence on him.
In 1952, he worked on set design in Hollywood.
In 1954, his print works received the UNESCO Prize at the Venice Biennale.
He died in Saint-Tropez on August 31, 2005.
