AMORE VINCITORE – After Orazio Riminaldi
Original reinterpretation by Slasky
Inspired by the celebrated Amor Vincitore by Orazio Riminaldi (Pisa, 1593–1630), this work is born as a contemporary reactivation of a masterpiece of Italian Baroque.
In the seventeenth-century painting, Love triumphs over the arts, over weapons, and over worldly knowledge. In this reinterpretation, the triumph becomes ambiguous, urban, nocturnal.
The angelic figure is transported to the present: the body becomes a narrative surface, traversed by tattoos that replace the traditional symbolic attributes; Caravaggisti light gives way to a neon-violaceous atmosphere; the overarching message — “IT’S NOT LOVE I’M JUST DRUNK” — undermines the rhetoric of absolute love, transforming victory into excess, bewilderment, contemporary confession.
The work dialogues with Italian Baroque tradition while preserving the chiaroscuro power and the theatricality of the pose, but it subverts the meaning: no longer moral allegory, but a disillusioned icon of today's culture.
This inquiry fits into Slasky’s artistic path, already presented at Wopart Art Fair 2019 at the Lugano Exhibition Centre (a work different from the present).

Slasky is a renowned Italian artist whose works have been shown in solo and group exhibitions internationally.
The artist has the ability to fuse classical artworks with techniques of contemporary digital art. With his neo-urban classical style, he unites tradition and modernity, bringing the protagonists of the original artworks into contemporary social and artistic environments.
Slasky (b. 1972, Italy) is a self-taught artist working from Artena, Rome. His practice emerged from outside
the institutional art system — a background in manual labour that informs both the materiality of his work and
the precision of its conceptual framework. Active since 2015, he has built an independent market presence
across Europe and Asia before undertaking a decisive shift toward institutional research practice.
