Tetsubin – Nanbu style cast iron teapot with 'Arare' hobnail pattern – Unused – Japan – 2nd half 20th century
Description
An unused Japanese cast iron teapot (tetsubin) in the classic Nanbu style from northern Japan, decorated with the traditional "arare" (hailstone) hobnail pattern. The finely graduated rows of raised dots — larger at the shoulder, finer toward the lid — are the hallmark of this celebrated casting tradition.
The pot has a gracefully curved spout, a fixed arched handle and a fitted lid with a chestnut-shaped knob. A cast foundry seal is present on the inside of the body. The interior carries a black protective finish and the piece is in unused condition, kept in storage since production; only very light traces of storage may be found.
Dimensions: height approx. 18 cm (including handle), body diameter approx. 14 cm, maximum width approx. 16 cm.
A decorative and functional piece of Japanese tea culture — beautiful on a shelf or as part of a tea setting. Will be carefully packed and shipped from Japan with tracking.
