Yoroi-bitsu-style display chest – Wood – Gogatsu Ningyo accessory
A decorative Japanese festival chest with a removable lid, glossy black finish and embossed gold-coloured floral fittings, probably dating from the 20th century.
Description
This decorative storage chest is identified as a yoroi-bitsu-style component associated with a Gogatsu Ningyo, or Japanese Boys' Day, armour display. Chests of this type were used to store parts of a miniature armour or helmet display and could also serve as its raised display base.
The chest has a removable rectangular lid and a raised four-legged structure. Its glossy black surface is contrasted by numerous gold-coloured metal mounts decorated with floral and scrolling patterns. The front legs are further embellished with flower-shaped applications and decorative foot caps.
The interior has a fitted light-coloured lining. The striking black-and-gold design makes the chest suitable as a Japanese festival object, a decorative storage piece or an interior display accent.
The exact maker, production date and original display set are unknown. This is a festival-display accessory and should not be confused with a full-size historical armour chest used by samurai.

The gold-coloured fittings show minor surface wear and small marks around several fasteners. The interior lining has light marks and age-related surface variation.
