PARKER DUOFOLD STREAMLINED DELUXE FOUNTAIN PEN (USA, 1930s):
We present at auction an authentic icon of the American fountain pen’s golden age: the Parker Duofold in its “Streamlined” (aerodynamic) version, introduced in 1929 as an evolution of the classic “Flat-top” from the previous decade.
This unit stands out for belonging to the coveted Deluxe series, immediately identifiable by the elegant arrangement of three fine gold-plated rings on the cap.
The body is made of the historic Moderne Black and Pearl celluloid. As is customary and intrinsic to Parker’s material history, the original nacreous color has aged over the decades due to the natural reaction of the celluloid, acquiring a beautiful, deep, warm amber/caramel-striped tone that certifies its authenticity and age. The endpieces (mushroom cap and blind cap) are made of black ebonite.
Beneath the blind cap lies the classic, reliable, and simple button-filler mechanism, patented by Parker.
The jewel of this piece: it mounts its splendid original nib forged in solid 14-karat gold, with the historic engraving “PARKER DUOFOLD PEN - MADE IN USA”.
Condition (Expert Appraisal)
Please the bidders to carefully study the photographic gallery. The article is in magnificent overall aesthetic condition, preserving the patina of its more than 90 years:
Celluloid and Ebonite: No cracks, fissures, or deep marks. Shows the aforementioned uniform and natural ambering of the celluloid. The manufacturer’s imprint on the body is still visible and legible.
Metals: The iconic ball clip retains its shape well. Expert note: There is superficial loss of gold plating (brassing) on the clip ball and very slight wear on the rings, wear entirely consistent with its era and historical use.
Nib: In superb aesthetic condition, clean and with the nibs properly aligned.
Mechanical: (Note: As this is a vintage button-fill pen, the original internal rubber sac will almost certainly need to be replaced by the new owner to ensure optimal daily ink filling and routine maintenance, a standard and very economical procedure for 1930s pens. Supplied without original case).
Shipping
The item will be carefully protected and securely packaged, with insured shipping and an international tracking number.
A fantastic opportunity to add to your collection one of Parker’s fundamental cornerstones in the company’s history!
