With this square-format artwork, Medsan portrays a geisha in the style of ancient Japanese porcelain, broken and then repaired with kintsugi. Painted in cobalt blue monochrome on a white background in the style of Arita-Imari, the courtesan with an elaborate hairstyle and a kimono adorned with phoenixes and peonies is inscribed within a surface entirely traversed by cracks highlighted with fine gold stitches.

The visual strength of the composition lies in its illusion of glazed ceramic: the fine cobalt oxide lines, the red touches of iron at the lips and ornaments, and the dense network of golden fractures that fragment and unite the portrait at once. The porcelain-on-glaze effect is strikingly realistic.
