With this square-format work, Medsan brings into collision the raw energy of Jean-Michel Basquiat's neo-expressionism and the absolute icon of streetwear that is the Nike Dunk. The sneaker appears at the center of a composition saturated with crowns, arrows, numbers and hurriedly thrown words, in the visual grammar itself of the New York painter from the 80s.

The treatment follows Basquiat's gesture: nervous line, intentional drips, flat areas of primary colors (red, yellow, blue) laid directly on the beige canvas left exposed. The artist's emblematic crowns literally crown the composition, while the inscriptions “SOLE / SOUL”, “BLOOD”, “ROYALTY”, “STREETS” and “MEDICINE” weave the street lexicon elevated to royalty. The cartouche メドサン signs the whole.

Beyond the wink, the work replays Basquiat's founding gesture: elevating the everyday object and urban culture to the sacred. The wordplay “sole / soul” (the sole and the soul) says it all — the sneaker is not a product, it is a totem, a crown worn by street culture itself.
