Only a few graphic works are as closely associated with the name Yves Saint Laurent as his legendary LOVE series.

The tradition began in 1970 when Yves Saint Laurent first designed an artistically conceived New Year’s greeting in poster format. What initially started as a personal gesture for friends, close confidants, employees and selected clients developed over almost four decades into one of the best-known graphic works in the fashion house’s repertoire. By 2007, nearly every year a new LOVE motif was created — each with its own color world, its own visual language, and its own design.

For these works, Yves Saint Laurent combined collages, drawings and gouaches into unmistakable compositions. Inspiration drew him, among other places, from Morocco, but also from artists such as Henri Matisse, Jean Cocteau, Georges Braque and Andy Warhol. The unifying element of all designs remained always a single word:

LOVE.

The motif offered here, 'LOVE 2001', belongs to this iconic series and vividly reflects Yves Saint Laurent’s creative handwriting. * Sheet in the visible area in very good preserved condition.
* The work has not been removed from the frame; an assessment of the obscured areas has therefore not been performed.
* The frame shows slight signs of wear, minor scratches and chipping, and can be replaced if desired. The actual sheet benefits from its very good condition due to a high-quality new presentation.
