Albert Ràfols-Casamada, born February 2, 1923 and died December 17, 2009, was a Spanish painter, poet and art professor involved in the avant-garde movements of his time. He is regarded as one of the most important and versatile Catalan artists of his era. His work began in the post-expressionist and figurative sphere, but quickly developed into his own abstract style based on a poetic rendering of daily reality.

Albert Ràfols-Casamada exhibited worldwide and his works are present in many museums around the globe, including, among others, the Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the British Museum in London, the Mie Prefectural Art Museum in Japan, the Meadows Museum in Dallas, Texas, the Museo Nacional de Arte Contemporáneo Rufino Tamayo in Mexico, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, the Museo de Arte Abstracto Español in Cuenca, the IVAM in Valencia, the Ibiza Contemporary Art Museum (Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Ibiza) in Ibiza, and the Museum of Anunciata in Alicante, and, in Barcelona, the Fundació Joan Miró, the MNAC (part of the collection of the Museum of Modern Art) as well as the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA) and the Palau de la Música Catalana Foundation in Caldes d’Estrac (Maresme).
In addition, his work is present in the form of murals in public spaces in Barcelona (The Four Seasons, 1982) on the ceiling of the hall bearing the painting’s name, used as the Barcelona City Hall tourist information desk, and two murals for the sports pavilion at Palau Sant Jordi, 1992) and Lyon (Untitled, 2000, Forum of the École Normale Supérieure Lettres et Sciences Humaines), as well as in private spaces such as his own home in Barcelona.
He also created several stained glass pieces, such as the Sanctuary of the Virgen del Camino in León (1959) and the Benlloch Residence in La Roca del Vallès (1965). The stained glass windows he created for the Sant Jordi pools (1966, Barcelona) have not been preserved.
