Landscape with a Creek, oil on canvas, 1997, 1990-2000 period, Italy, original edition, sold with a gilded frame; dimensions 67 × 57 cm (canvas 50 × 40 cm).
Description from the seller
“Landscape with a Stream”
Oil on canvas, signed. In an elegant 20th-century gold frame
Signed (author not identified)
Year: 1997
The composition depicts a rural landscape crossed by a small watercourse, which in the foreground leads the gaze perspectively toward the center of the scene. The banks are occupied by dense, lush vegetation, while the lateral tree masses delimit a sort of natural opening toward the horizon.
The painting is executed with free, tactile, and fairly lively brushwork, particularly evident in the rendering of the tree canopies and the vegetation. The palette is dominated by various greens, enlivened by ochres, yellows, blues, and small reddish and orange accents.
What is especially interesting is the treatment of light: the sky, built up through layers of blue, gray, white, and warm tones, creates a mutable, diffuse atmosphere. The watercourse, conversely, serves a pictorial function of perspective, guiding the eye toward depth and contributing to the composition’s balance.
Stylistically, the work appears to belong to the tradition of post-impressionist and naturalistic landscape painting of the 20th century, with a focus more on atmospheric and chromatic rendering than on a meticulous description of real detail.
The gilded frame, richly molded and decorated with vegetal and rocaille motifs, gives the whole piece an important decorative presence.
Dimensions: 67 x 57 cm
Canvas: 50 x 40 cm
*** Artwork presented without reserve price / to the highest bidder
With certificate of sale and legitimate provenance
The frame is considered a complimentary item; therefore complaints about possible damage during shipping will not be entertained.
