Jan de Bie was a versatile Dutch visual artist, known for his paintings, drawings, woodcuts and linocuts. Born in 's-Hertogenbosch, he initially found his inspiration in the landscape of the Bossche Broek, but gradually his oeuvre expanded with themes such as libraries, pigeons, studios and literature. His work is characterized by great technical versatility, a strong imagination and a constant fascination with space, memory and collection. From 1988 to 2008 De Bie was a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts Sint-Joost in Breda. With his recognizable visual language and artisanal craftsmanship, he is regarded as one of the most notable artists from North Brabant of his generation.
