Waterman's Ideal Safety Fountain Pen model 42, produced in Italy around the 1920s.
It is the sought-after Safety version with a retractable nib operated by a screw mechanism, adorned with a refined Continental Overlay in 18-carat gold, stamped 18 Ctn, with elegant guilloché work and rich floral decorations on the cap and clip.
The original end-cap in ebonite bears the model number 42, identifying the Safety Waterman with nib size no. 2.
The nib is the original Waterman's Ideal, with inscriptions perfectly legible.
