This composition shows three Off-set prints by the Catalan artist Antoni Tàpies, originally published in the prestigious French art magazine Derrière le Miroir (No. 200), published by Maeght Éditeur in Paris in 1972. Characteristics of the WorksThese pieces are part of Antoni Tàpies's graphic production and bring together several of the most recurrent and iconic symbols of his informalist language:The Alphabet and the Caligraphy (Upper Lithograph): It presents handwritten letters blurred over a red background, crowned by a large gestural stroke in the form of a loop or number. Tàpies used the letters both for their caligraphic-oriental value and for their enigmatic meaning.The Cross / X (Lower Left Lithograph): A large brown cross rotundly crosses a background of expressive black brushstrokes. The cross symbolizes spirituality, human presence, death and often functions as the initial "T" of his own surname.The Footprints (Lower Right Lithograph): Black stampings that recall the naked human footprint on an ochre materia background, which accentuates his obsession with the body, existentialism and the connection with the earth.
