Description

Elegant ink drawing by Eugène Eechaut dated January 22, 1983.

A nude young woman lies in a relaxed and sensuous pose, chest slightly raised, gaze turned upward.

The line is fluid, precise, and of great purity: Eechaut synthesizes the body with remarkable economy of means, playing with curves and volumes without any exaggerated model.

The geometric background (window or frame) provides a discreet structure that contrasts with the softness of the nude.

The work perfectly reveals the artist’s graphic talent: elegance, restrained sensuality, and mastery of line.

A beautiful example of his nudes from the 1980s, a period when his drawing reached great maturity and formal purity.

Gallery / Seal

a seal reading “Eugène Eechaut – Galerie Pfeiffer Bruxelles” and monogram “EECHAUT” are visible.

Artist’s Biography

Eugène Eechaut (Raismes, France, 1928 – Brussels, Belgium, 2019) was a Belgian artist known for his coherent fantastical and surreal universe.

After evening classes at the Saint-Gilles Academy in Brussels, he developed his work largely as a self-t-taught artist.

His work blends landscapes of the North, nudes, abstract compositions, and motifs inspired by the insect world, all rendered with exceptional technical precision in ink, hatching, and collage.

Influenced by Marcel Gromaire and Roger de La Fresnaye, he joined the Groupe Jecta in 1968. From 1958, he received numerous distinctions at the European Centre of Art and Aesthetics and regularly exhibited in major European galleries, notably at Galerie Tamara Pfeiffer in Brussels alongside René Magritte (with whom he was close), Jean Cocteau, Félicien Rops, and other masters of the 20th century.

His elegant graphic style and poetic surrealism, often described as “fantastic art,” make his drawings particularly sought after in the Belgian and European art market.
