High Kyo-yaki ceramic cup by Yasutaka Shimizu, dating to 1990–2000 in a contemporary Kyoto style, unused condition, with white glaze and violet tones over a reddish-brown base, measuring 16 cm in diameter and 16 cm tall, and including a signed Paulownia wooden box and an archival document.
Description from the seller
An extraordinary tall ceramic cup in Kyo-yaki, the highest expression of Kyoto's contemporary ceramic art. A piece with slender, elegant charm, capable of combining the daily practicality of the tea art with an aesthetic of refined modernity.
The strength of the work lies in the refined contrast between the white glaze and the sophisticated violet hue, which runs along the vertical development of the cup over a terracotta red base. The transition and controlled fusion of the two glazes testify to extraordinary technical mastery and perfect control of the firing.
Yasutaka Shimizu is a son of artists and guardian of a famous lineage of Kyoto ceramists and was officially recognized in 2011 as Living National Treasure of Kyoto Prefecture. His works are celebrated for formal balance and innovative glaze research.
The mark impressed/engraved on the base of the work, a paulownia wooden box signed and sealed in the master's own hand, and an archival document containing the biography, awards, and artistic journey of the master make this set a perfect complete collection accompaniment.
