Horst Antes (*1936 in Heppenheim) is one of the most important German artists of the postwar period. He studied from 1957 to 1959 at the State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe with HAP Grieshaber and developed his distinctive visual language already in the 1960s. He gained international recognition especially through his iconic “Kopffüßler” – enigmatic figures that became his trademark and made him one of the most important representatives of the New Figuration.
His works have been presented in numerous international museums and exhibitions, including multiple times at documenta in Kassel and at the Venice Biennale. In addition to his extensive painting oeuvre, Horst Antes created a significant graphic œuvre, whose color aquatints are highly valued by collectors for their high print quality and often limited editions. The artist’s works are today in renowned public and private collections worldwide.
