Description from the seller

Matterhorn Trilogy – Polaroid on Rice Paper

This three-part work approaches the Matterhorn in a quiet, poetic manner. It starts from three original Polaroid photographs, which have been overlaid with a transparent layer of fine rice paper. This unusual design element fundamentally changes the perception of the photographs: the subjects appear soft, diffuse, and slightly elated, as if they were emerging from a memory or a dream.

The transparency of the rice paper deliberately creates a distance between the artwork and the viewer. The Matterhorn is not shown in razor-sharp precision, but as an atmospheric presence that leaves room for one’s own thoughts and emotions. It is precisely this restraint that gives the trilogy its special power — it invites the viewer to linger longer and to discover the subject anew each time.

The work comes from the Zermatt-based photographer Marc Kronig, who has dedicated himself to photography with passion for over 40 years. His particular fondness lies in the Polaroid technique, whose uniqueness and immediacy have fascinated him for decades. In his works, he combines traditional photography with experimental materials and artistic interventions, resulting in unmistakable image worlds.

This trilogy is a unique piece. It unites the authenticity of analog Polaroid photography with a sensitive, contemporary visual language and opens up a new, almost meditative view of the Alps’ best-known landmark."
