Born Paulette-Jeanne Rouquié in 1910 in Paris, Paule Ingrand entered the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs where she trained in drawing, painting and graphic arts. In 1931, she married master glassmaker Max Ingrand (1908-1969), with whom she formed one of the most emblematic couples of French decorative arts in the 20th century.
Within the duo, Paule plays a decisive role: she is the colorist, the designer and the creator of the compositions. Together, they carried out numerous prestigious commissions: décors for the Normandie ocean liner, stained glass, engraved and gilded glass panels for luxury hotels, churches and private residences. Paule excelled particularly in creating cartoons for frescoes, tapestries and monumental projects.
After their separation, Paule Ingrand settled in Belgium and pursued an active solo career until her death in 1997. She continued to produce drawings, paintings, jewelry (notably in collaboration with Arthus Bertrand) and graphic creations. Her style evolved toward a freer, more colorful and joyful expression, while preserving the compositional rigor inherited from her Art Deco training.
