Splendid and elegant graphic work by the master of Italian Neorealism, Renato Guttuso (1911-1987), titled "Gardenia" (also known in the collector market as Rosa nel cuore or Rosa bianca).

The work depicts a vibrant white gardenia in the foreground defined by the artist's characteristic black graphic stroke, elegantly superimposed on a stark black heart, all set against a background of blue sky and clouds. Signed in the original by the artist at the bottom center. The back of the canvas presents exceptional historical and documentary value: it bears Guttuso's autograph declaration (dated Rome 23-9-'86) officially authorizing his famed muse and fashion designer Marta Marzotto to reproduce his works. It is also impressed with the distinctive heart-shaped stamp with the intertwined M-R monogram of Marta Marzotto and the famous Latin motto "Quis amat valeat, pereat qui nescit amare".

The work is in generally good condition for its age. The structural wooden frame is intact, clean and stable. The 21 screen-printed colors retain notable brightness and original saturation.
