With this square-format work, Medsan guides the Going Merry, the mythical ship of the Straw Hat crew from One Piece, through a frozen winter Japanese landscape dominated by Mount Fuji.

The treatment unfolds a winter oil with delicate impasto: pine trees bowing under the snow, vermilion torii emerging from the mist of a frozen lake, the snowy summit of Fuji standing out against a milky sky from which snowflakes fall. The contrast is what gives the mashup its charm: the cartoonish, warm rendering of the small ship — Jolly Roger sail, sun-like figurehead — cheerfully clashes with the silent chill of the traditional setting.

The work celebrates travel and adventure even in the rigor of winter. Where snow imposes silence and stillness, the Straw Hats’ ship continues its journey, carrying a dream of escape that nothing can stop — a frosted and poetic layover on the great road to freedom.
