Description
This is an original print by the renowned Japanese-born French-based abstract artist Kumi Sugai (1919–1996).

Sugai was one of the leading figures of the post-war École de Paris and avant-garde abstraction. He developed a distinctive artistic language by combining elements of traditional Japanese aesthetics with Western geometric abstraction, bold forms, and a dynamic sense of movement. His works are held in major museum collections worldwide, including the Centre Pompidou in Paris and The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.

This striking composition features Sugai’s iconic geometric “S”-curve motif, rendered in bold green, red, and black with rich textural details. The dynamic forms and vivid contrasting colors reflect the distinctive visual language for which Sugai became internationally recognized.

The work is hand-signed “SUGAI” in pencil at the lower right and marked “E.A.” (Épreuve d’artiste / Artist’s Proof) in pencil at the lower left.
