Description
This is an original screenprint by the internationally acclaimed Japanese-born, Paris-based artist Kumi Sugai (1919–1996).
Sugai was a prominent figure of the post-war École de Paris, internationally recognized for his distinctive synthesis of Japanese aesthetics and Western geometric abstraction. His works are represented in major public museum collections worldwide, including The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and Tate in London.
Created around 1970, this striking print features bold geometric forms in vivid green, deep navy blue, vibrant red, and sharp black-and-white diagonal stripes. The strong color fields and precise geometric structures create a dynamic visual rhythm characteristic of Sugai’s highly recognizable approach to modern abstraction.
The work is hand-signed “SUGAI” in pencil at the lower right margin and inscribed “E.A.” (Épreuve d’artiste / Artist’s Proof) in pencil at the lower left margin.
Visual Appeal:
A powerful graphic composition featuring bold geometric forms, vivid flat color fields, and striking diagonal patterns. The strong contrast between saturated colors and crisp linear elements creates a dynamic and highly modern visual impact.

A desirable Artist’s Proof by an internationally recognized master of post-war Japanese abstraction and the École de Paris, appealing to collectors of modern geometric printmaking.
Dimensions:
Sheet size: approx. 41.5 × 41.5 cm
