Description from the seller
David Law
Photographer Artist – Creator of contemporary images
Multidisciplinary visual artist, author and musician, David Law develops work centered on gaze, presence and the perception of the image in urban space. He first gained recognition with a series devoted to shop-window mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave rise to an art book published in 2021. Later intrigued by the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he continues this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling, almost lifelike presence, challenging our relationship to illusion and projection.
New series – Walls of legends
This series pays homage to iconic figures who have marked history, music, cinema and popular culture. Each portrait, reduced to essentials, captures in a few powerful contrasts an immediately recognizable identity. Realized with contemporary digital tools and then transposed into a stencil aesthetic, the works are rooted in the street art tradition, between spontaneity and mastery of gesture. Deep black and raw surfaces evoke direct intervention on the wall, while the imperfections and textures reinforce their urban character. Between collective memory and visual expression, this series offers a timeless reading of icons that continue to inhabit our imagination.
Edition & Manufacture
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist’s proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are made on aluminum with an integrated rear mount. Printed on luminous white vinyl, mounted between two aluminum plates, with soft UV- and humidity-resistant lamination, ensuring excellent durability, long-term color stability and a modern, contemporary finish.
Career
Since 2014, David Law participates in about twenty Contemporary Art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the designated photographer and videographer for several contemporary art fair organizers. Parallel to his visual activity, he develops an authorial and musician’s career including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a comic, a photo book and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer and guitarist, he is currently performing with the band FRENZY.
