About
During a stay in Los Angeles, Peter Kogler sent a designed page to Vienna each month, which was published in the Austrian daily Der Standard. After the project ended, all twelve newspaper pages were assembled as a complete multiple, “California.” The work combines newspaper, edition, and conceptual art and exemplifies Kogler’s interest in serial image systems and the dissemination of art outside the traditional museum space. The project arose within the activities of Museum for Art in Progress, which integrated art deliberately into public media.

Biography
Peter Kogler (1959) is one of the most important figures in Austrian contemporary art and is regarded as a pioneer of computer-generated art as well as immersive media installations. Since the 1980s, he has developed a distinctive visual vocabulary of repeating motifs such as ants, brains, pipe networks, and net-like structures, connecting architecture, perception, and digital information systems. His works move between graphic art, sculpture, edition prints, video, and immersive spatial installations and have been presented at, among others, documenta, the Venice Biennale, and in renowned museums such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, and mumok Vienna. Peter Kogler’s works are now part of numerous international museum and private collections and are among the defining positions in media art and conceptual contemporary art.
