Description from the seller
A0000005514
Eversharp Skyline Fountain Pen: We present at auction a true icon of 20th-century industrial design: the Eversharp Skyline in its Standard size, manufactured in the 1940s. Designed by legendary Henry Dreyfuss, this fountain pen broke the mold of its era with its radical, aerodynamic aesthetics.
This particular piece features a beautiful coordinated color combination: a smooth body in dark solid brown polystyrene (Dubonnet) ending in a very sharp conical tip. This contrasts perfectly with its plastic celluloid cap, which displays a gorgeous longitudinal ribbed pattern alternating thin dark and gold/amber lines.
It retains its unmistakable and patented over-the-top clip that starts at the very top of the crown, embracing the dome (derby) completely. Inside, the pen houses its original solid 14-karat gold nib.
Condition (Expert Review)
The fountain pen is in an aesthetically exceptional state for its age:
Body and Cap: The materials maintain excellent shine and the brown tones appear rich and deep. No cracks, deep scratches, or deformations in the aerodynamic profile are observed.
Metals: The iconic clip and the lever fill retain a magnificent appearance with minor signs of time’s passage.
Nib: 14k gold Eversharp nib in perfect condition, with the tines correctly aligned.
Filling System: The lever mechanism operates smoothly. (Expert note: As is standard with pens from this era, it’s likely the original inner rubber sac will need to be replaced to ensure full ink loading and optimal daily use).
(It is recommended to view the photo gallery closely to appreciate the ribbed cap pattern, the brown body tone, and the overall aerodynamic design).
Shipping
The item will be carefully protected and packed, with international tracking number, ensuring safe delivery to the winning bidder.
Best of luck to all bidders with this piece of 1940s writing history!"}
