Description from the seller

THERE IS ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD - EDITION 1/1

With this square-format work, Medsan reinterprets the sacred theme of the Virgin and Child by substituting Grogu — the “Child” from The Mandalorian series, aka Baby Yoda — for the Infant Jesus. Seated on the clouds, swathed in pink and blue, crowned by a radiant sun, the Madonna tenderly holds the small green creature against her, while a crowd of winged cherubs surrounds them. The round image is set in a gilded frame adorned with sculpted putti; a cartouche bears the signature “メドサン” (Medsan).

The visual impact of the composition lies in its painterly treatment that imitates Baroque religious painting: soft carnations, ample drapery, downward golden light, and cherubs in the Raphael/Murillo style. The antique finish, including craquelure and a trompe-l'oeil frame, gives the scene the solemnity of a devotion altarpiece.

The work’s impact comes from the irreverent tenderness of the conceit: pop culture’s most endearing figure elevated to the status of a sacred Child, watched over by the Madonna and the angels. Medsan overlays Christian iconography with a galactic myth in an image that is as sweet as it is playful.

A pictorial piece, gilded and full of wit, ideal for bringing a classic, pop, and undeniably original touch to a collector’s interior — a heart-winner for lovers of sacred art as well as pop culture.

About the Studio:
Atelier Joconde is a workshop of artists united around a living, plural contemporary creation. Established as a true center for artistic production, the studio operates both in collective creation and in individual approaches, depending on projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. At his side, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo engages in a more instinctive search, blending abstract art, outsider art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, produced, and followed within the studio, with a shared artistic standard and a distinctive identity for each artist.
