Rare original silver print by Mario Giacomelli, from the legendary La Buona Terra series, one of the most important bodies of work in 20th-century Italian photography.
Created between the 1950s and 1960s in the countryside around Senigallia (Marche region), this series is the result of lengthy collaboration with a farming family. Once their trust had been earned, Giacomelli captured with exceptional sensitivity the rhythm of the seasons, the work of the land, children's games, the transmission between generations, and moments of sharing. The towering hay bales, omnipresent in the series, become the symbol of the continuity of rural life.
The photograph offered here is one of the most iconic images from La Buona Terra.
Regarded as one of the greatest European photographers of the post-war period, Mario Giacomelli is represented in the permanent collections of the world’s most prestigious institutions, including MoMA (New York), the Victoria and Albert Museum (London), and the Centre Pompidou (Paris). His works are today highly sought after by international collectors.
