Description from the seller
David Law
Photartist – Creator of contemporary imagery
A multidisciplinary photographer-artist, author and musician, David Law develops work centered on gaze, presence and the perception of the image in urban space. He first made a name for himself with a series devoted to shop window mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superimpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave birth to an art book published in 2021. Later, intrigued by the distinctive aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he extends this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling, almost living presence, challenging our relationship to illusion and projection.
New Series – Echo Waves / Echo Visions - A new reading of cultural icons
The Echo Waves / Echo Visions series offers a contemporary rereading of cultural icons through an immersive and vibrant pop art aesthetic. Each work rests on a mosaic construction composed of thousands of micro-graphic compositions. From afar, the image reveals a recognizable figure, while up close it unveils a wealth of visual details. Each fragment acts as a “wave”, evoking the artistic universe of the subject depicted. The creation process is long and demanding, requiring precision and mastery of graphic tools. Extensive work is undertaken on color, light and the overall harmony of the image. Everything is created in an original and independent manner.
Edition & Production
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are produced on aluminium with an integrated back mounting. Printed on bright white vinyl, laminated between two aluminum plates, with a soft UV- and humidity-resistant lamination, guaranteeing excellent durability, long-term color stability and a modern, contemporary finish.
Parcours
Since 2014, David Law has participated in around twenty contemporary art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the designated photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. In parallel with his visual activity, he develops authorial and musician work including three novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photo book and five self-produced CDs. A singer and guitarist, he currently performs with the group FRENZY.
