Description from the seller

This is a photo of Christoffel Johannes (Kees) Scherer (Amsterdam, 16 April 1920 – 19 January 1993), a Dutch photographer who gained fame with his street photography and his important contribution to Dutch photojournalism. After the liberation in 1945 he began his career as a freelance photographer for newspapers and magazines. He made a name with penetrating reports on, among other things, the 1953 flood disaster and the Hungarian uprising in 1956. In 1955 Scherer was one of the co-founders of World Press Photo, an initiative that grew into the world's leading photo festival, to which thousands of professional photographers from dozens of countries participate annually. His work is characterized by an honest and unvarnished portrayal of daily life in the fifties and sixties, where his photos not only capture reality but also reflect his socialist beliefs. Scherer's work is exhibited in various museums, including the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, and is also part of the collection of the Rijksmuseum.

Dimensions: 39 x 27 cm
