Description from the seller

The photo book OWN provides a complete overview of the rich photographic oeuvre of Erwin Olaf.

All well-known series are represented, from 'Chessmen' from 1988 to more recent series such as Rain, Hope, Grieve, Fall, Keyhole and Le Dernier Cri. There are a few fashion and advertising photos, but the emphasis is on the free work. In the beautifully reproduced images, Olaf’s meticulous eye for detail in placing his models in interiors becomes clearly visible. With his camera, he presents himself as a contemporary painter of human shortcomings, drawing inspiration not only from old masters such as Caravaggio, Vermeer and Hopper but also from films of the sixties and seventies by Fellini, Kubrick and Pasolini.

Erwin Olaf (1959–2023) was an internationally renowned Dutch photographer, known for his carefully staged photography in which every detail was precisely directed. Themes such as beauty, sexuality, identity and transience played an important role in his work. He gained worldwide recognition and, among other things, created portraits of the Dutch royal family.

Furthermore, we use restorers from the professional association: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you would like to make use of this, of course we would be happy to hear from you.
