A bronze rectangular incense burner on four legs with a deep black patina, inset panels featuring dragon-like figures among clouds and lotus motifs, side beast-head handles, a pierced relief lid with a stylised floral finial, interior oxidation from use, 13 cm in diameter and 17.5 cm high (including the lid), weighing 1050 g, made in Japan and dating to 1940–1950, and accompanied by a wooden storage box with a signature and seal.
Description from the seller
A substantial square bronze incense burner, raised on four legs. The body is finished with a deep black patina, against which the recessed panels stand out in contrast. Within these panels, dragon-like figures appear among swirling clouds and lotus flowers, rendered in relief together with arabesque motifs that extend across the surface.
The side handles are fused as beast heads, projecting outward from the vessel’s shoulders. The lid (well) is worked in openwork relief, allowing the incense smoke to pass through; it crowns a stylized floral finial. Inside, natural oxidation and traces of use are visible, consistent with handling during incense practice. The piece is accompanied by a wooden storage box with a signature and seal on the lid.
Dimensions:
Diameter: 13.0 cm
Height: 17.5 cm (including the lid)
Weight: 1050 g
Condition:
Small signs of wear and superficial scratches compatible with age.
