Description from the seller
Frits J. Rotgans was a self-taught photographer who began his career as a graphic designer. As early as the 1930s he experimented with various photographic techniques, including color photography. His unique color images of the German occupation of Amsterdam in 1942 form a particularly historical document. After the war, Rotgans grew into a much-in-demand professional photographer, known for his thoughtful compositions and technical perfection. He mainly captured ports, shipping, and aviation, and worked for clients including KLM, large shipyards, and the municipalities of Amsterdam and Rotterdam.
