AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Large drypoint with gold leaf retouching, 80 x 279 cm (diptych of two sheets) edition 45 + XV by Walter Valentini published in several catalogs.
Printer Giulio Serafini - Pesaro

Walter Valentini (Pergola, 22 October 1928 – Milan, 20 May 2022) was an Italian painter, sculptor and printmaker, recognized internationally.
As with the plates, the graphic works are not smooth surfaces: with a refined drypoint technique, Valentini presses the paper so that the drawing remains raised above the plane. The subjects of these engravings are the same as those of the plates; only the technique varies: from aquatint to etching to drypoint.
The choice of paper is fundamental: the first graphic works were made on Magnani paper from Pescia and on Fabriano paper, then they move to Colombe paper by Duchêne.
He won numerous prizes and participated in many exhibitions: 1st Biennale of Contemporary Italian Engraving in Venice in 1955; International Biennales of Ibiza and Listowel; International Biennial of Kraków in 1984; International Biennial of Ljubljana in 1984 and 1989; the XVII (XLVII) Venice Biennale; Quadriennale of Rome in 1999.
He carried out, on direct commission, large installations in Milan, Bologna, Reggio Emilia, Chiaravalle (Ancona), Pesaro, Siegburg (Germany), Connecticut and Aspen (USA).
He was part of the group that in 2001 designed the Ca' Staccolo church in Urbino.
