In 1887 and 1888 James Ensor etched several harbor views in Nieuwpoort, but mainly at the harbor entrance in Ostend.
Like the etched landscapes, they are studies of light play, in this case on boats and sloops.
The etching shows faint traces of coloring at the level of the waterline and the quay.

Zoals de geëtste landschappen zijn het studies van lichtspelingen, in dit geval op boten en sloepen. 
De ets is vertoont lichte sporen van inkleuring ter hoogte van de waterlijn en de kade.
