"Christus und Nikodemus", 1903.
Color allograph with plates tinted blue, green, and red, enhanced with aluminum, 1897.
Size: 50 x 70 cm.
Handsigned. Also with monogram and date in the plate.
Verso, at the lower edge of the sheet, stamped "Kunstdruckerei Künstlerbund Karlsruhe GmbH" and numbered "9" in pencil.
Beringer Griffelkunst 123, 1903.
"Christus und Nikodemus" is one of the master's key works, created using Thoma's preferred technique: allograph. A work from his Frankfurt period that showcases his characteristic visual language. A hand-printed lithograph made from aluminum plates (a process first described in 1892 by Josef Scholz in Mainz).
