Description from the seller
Beautiful portrait of Frida Kahlo from the 1930s. Photographed by Manuel Álvarez Bravo, the father of Mexican modernism. The photo was probably taken in Coyoacán, on the outskirts of Mexico City, where Frida Kahlo owned her studio-home, which since her death has become the Casa Azul Museum (Blue House) or the Frida Kahlo Museum. It should be noted that it was mainly Álvarez Bravo's wife, Lola, who photographed Frida Kahlo. She immortalized the Mexican artist even on her deathbed. Black-and-white prepress print on satin RC photographic paper. Medium resolution, archive digital print. Later print. Format: 28 x 20.4 cm with margins. Label and annotations on the back. Densitometric strip in the lower margin. In very good overall condition. Presented on a 30 x 24 cm mat card. Manuel Álvarez Bravo (1902–2002) is a pioneer of modern photography in Mexico and one of the most emblematic figures of 20th-century Latin American art. Nicknamed “Don Manuel,” this centenarian artist traversed the century by building a poetic body of work at the border between social documentary, abstraction and surrealism.
