Roger Gressani (born 1942) presents the oil on canvas work “Couleur et Matière”, an original edition from the 1970s, 81 × 100 cm, in its original white wooden frame with hand-signed credentials, good condition aside from a few small age-related paint cracks.
Description from the seller
Roger Gressani – "Couleur et Matière" – Oil on Canvas, Hand-Signed
Roger Gressani is a self-taught Italian painter, born in Lauco in 1942. Alongside his painting practice, he works with dalle de verre (thick slab glass) to create contemporary stained glass windows. His work has been recognised with several awards, including the Grand Prix at the Salon de Garches in 1973 and the Chesnay "Vitraux" award in 2001.
"Couleur et Matière" ("Colour and Matter") is a bold abstract composition in oil, its title a fitting description of the work itself — thick, textured passages of paint in coral red, ochre, deep plum, and ivory sit against a cool turquoise ground, with visible impasto and confident, gestural brushwork throughout. Given Gressani's parallel practice in stained glass, the interplay of luminous colour blocks and dense texture in this painting feels closely connected to his work in glass — light, colour, and material worked together with the same tactile intensity.
