Mario Schifano (1934-1998) was an Italian artist among the most important of the postwar period.
Associated with Pop Art, he worked across painting, photography, cinema, and music. After an informal start, in the 1960s he approached advertising language and mass media, producing iconic works and reinterpretations of famous brands and cultural symbols, exploring video technologies, drugs, and many other themes.
