Ugo Nespolo, born in 1941 in Mosso, Biella, is a celebrated Italian artist, painter, sculptor, filmmaker, and writer based in Turin. He graduated from the Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti in Turin under Enrico Paulucci, and also holds a degree in Modern Literature with a thesis on Semiology from the University of Turin.

Nespolo's career took off in the 1960s, shaped by Pop Art, conceptual art, Arte Povera, and Fluxus — movements he encountered firsthand during frequent trips to the United States from 1967 onward. His name appears on the famous 1967 manifesto for the exhibition "Con-temp l'azione" alongside key figures of Turin's Arte Povera scene, including Merz, Pistoletto, and Paolini. Irony, playfulness, and transgression have defined his work ever since. Beyond painting and sculpture, Nespolo has had a prolific career in experimental film — with retrospectives held at institutions including the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris and the Philadelphia Museum of Modern Art — as well as in ceramics, furniture, and set and title design. He won the Bolaffi Prize in 1974, and his work has been exhibited across Europe, the Americas, and Japan.

This silkscreen, part of Nespolo's homage to Andy Warhol, playfully reconstructs a gallery interior featuring Warhol's own iconic imagery including his celebrated Marilyn Monroe portrait, alongside glimpses of his cow print and flower series which are set within Nespolo's own signature graphic language of bold colour blocks and dynamic, fractured perspective. It's a witty, layered piece: Nespolo's tribute to one of Pop Art's most influential figures, filtered entirely through his own distinctive visual style.
