Montblanc - Calligraphy pen

The Meisterstück 149 is Montblanc’s celebrated oversized flagship fountain pen, instantly recognisable by its imposing proportions, glossy black resin body, gold-plated details and white Montblanc emblem.

This attractive vintage example features a beautifully engraved, two-tone 14C/585 gold nib marked “4810”. The original “M” sticker is still attached to the barrel, indicating a Medium nib, together with its West Germany production marking. Based on these characteristics, this appears to be a West Germany-era example, probably dating from the 1980s; the exact production year has not been independently verified.

Condition:

The pen presents attractively and retains a deep gloss, with light surface marks and micro-scratches consistent with its vintage age and previous handling. The gold-coloured trim and cap emblem remain visually attractive. The presentation case, outer box and literature show normal signs of age and storage. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the description.

Important functional disclosure:

The pen has not been serviced. The piston control turns normally, but the pen did not write when tested. The filling system and ink flow have therefore not been fully verified. It is offered in unserviced condition and may require professional cleaning, adjustment or repair before use.

A desirable opportunity for the Montblanc collector: the combination of the iconic 149 model, 14C two-tone nib, surviving Medium sticker and period presentation set gives this example considerable character and collector appeal.
