Description from the seller
This striking graphic work by Lars Norrman presents a highly stylised interior scene, built around bold blocks of colour, simplified human figures and strong geometric shapes. The vivid pink, blue, red and dark brown tones create a dramatic and almost theatrical atmosphere. The simplified forms and powerful composition are characteristic of Norrman’s modernist approach.
Lars Norrman (1915–1979) was a Swedish painter, draughtsman and graphic artist, born in Helsingborg. He studied under Otte Sköld in Stockholm and later studied in Paris under the influential modernist Fernand Léger, whose emphasis on simplified forms, clear surfaces and strong composition had a lasting influence on Norrman’s work.
Norrman became particularly well known for his colour lithographs, often based on impressions from his extensive travels. He travelled to places including Greenland, North Africa, Bulgaria and other parts of Europe, transforming his observations into paintings, drawings and graphic works. His art is recognised for its strong colours, simplified forms and decorative compositions.
