Giuliano Barbanti was born on October 22, 1936. Attracted from a very young age to painting, at fourteen he enrolled in the local Federico Faruffini Art School.

He has worked since 1952 as a graphic designer at the Arar advertising agency in Milan, where he stays for five years, while continuing to study painting and frequenting art galleries and the studios of Milanese artists. He visits the major exhibitions organized by the City of Milan at Palazzo Reale in the 1950s: Caravaggio, Picasso, Van Gogh and Mondrian. The latter will constitute a constant and fundamental reference for his work. He begins to exhibit in some group shows at the Civic Library of his city.

In 1961, with a group of young artists, he opens the gallery “Il Giorno.” He is among the founders of the Piazzetta exhibition and contributes to its evolution, from an annual painting show to a center of permanent activities for promoting interventions in neighborhoods, based on the needs expressed by citizens and realized with their involvement in all project stages from 1973 to 1976. The following year he establishes his studio in the Quartiere delle botteghe where, among others, the artists Castellani, Bonalumi, Festa, Marzulli, Curone and Forgioli work.
