Description from the seller

A pair of lovely Japanese lacquer sake kettles 銚子 (chôshi), finished in vibrant red lacquer with an auspicious design of pine, plum blossom, cranes and long-tailed turtles.

The rounded bodies are decorated with pine trees 松 (matsu) and flowering plum 梅 (ume), together with cranes 鶴 (tsuru) and long-tailed turtles 蓑亀 (minogame), traditional symbols associated with longevity and good fortune. The design is complemented by scrolling foliage 唐草 (karakusa).
The decoration is executed predominantly in gold flat sprinkled-design 平蒔絵 (hiramaki-e), with black and red accents and details in cut gold foil 切金 (kirigane). Each kettle is raised on three small pointed feet and fitted with a tall loop handle and removable lid. The spouts are decorated with further scrolling floral motifs.

Complete with their original wooden storage box 共箱 (tomobako), bearing a dated inscription for Shôwa 4 昭和四年, corresponding to 1929.

Dimensions:
Height: 29 cm, Length: 22 cm, Depth: 15 cm.

In very good condition with only minimal traces of age, like some kirigane losses. Please refer to the photographs for a clear impression of the condition.
