Description from the seller
David Law
Multidisciplinary Visual Artist – Creator of contemporary images
Multidisciplinary photographer, author and musician, David Law develops work centered on gaze, presence and the perception of the image in urban space. He first made himself known through a series devoted to shop-window mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superimpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave rise to an art book published in 2021. Prompted then by the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he continues this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling, almost living presence, challenging our relationship to illusion and projection.
New series – Walls of legends
This series pays homage to iconic figures who have left their mark on history, music, cinema and popular culture. Each portrait, reduced to essentials, captures in a few strong contrasts an immediately recognizable identity. Realized with contemporary digital tools and then transposed into a stencil-like aesthetic, the works belong to the street art tradition, between spontaneity and mastery of gesture. Deep black and raw surfaces evoke direct intervention on the wall, while imperfections and textures reinforce their urban character. Between collective memory and visual expression, this series offers a timeless reading of icons who continue to inhabit our imagination.
Edition & Fabrication
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist’s proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are made on aluminum with integrated back mounting. Printing on luminous white vinyl, affixed between two aluminum panels, with a soft UV- and humidity-resistant lamination, guaranteeing excellent durability, great longevity, color stability and a modern, contemporary look
Trajectory
Since 2014, David Law has participated in about twenty contemporary art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the dedicated photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. In parallel with his visual activity, he develops an authorial and musical body of work including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photo book and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he currently performs with the group FRENZY.
