Description from the seller
David Law
Photographer Artist – Creator of contemporary images
Multidisciplinary photographer artist, author and musician, David Law develops a body of work focused on gaze, presence and the perception of the image in urban space. He first became known for a series devoted to window mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave birth to an art book published in 2021. Later, drawn to the singular aesthetics of collectable dolls and Japanese figurines, he extends this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling, almost living presence, prompting us to question our relationship to illusion and projection.
New series – Walls of legends
This series pays homage to iconic figures who have marked history, music, cinema and popular culture. Each portrait, reduced to essentials, captures with a few powerful contrasts an identity that is immediately recognizable. Executed with contemporary digital tools and then transposed into a stencil-inspired aesthetic, the works sit within the street art tradition, between spontaneity and mastery of gesture. Deep black tones and rough surfaces evoke direct intervention on the wall, while imperfections and textures reinforce their urban character. Between collective memory and visual expression, this series offers a timeless reading of the icons who continue to inhabit our imagination.
Edition & Manufacturing
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies plus 4 artist’s proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are produced on aluminum with an integrated rear mounting. Printing on luminous white vinyl, mounted between two aluminum plates, with soft anti-UV and anti-humidity lamination, guaranteeing excellent durability, long-term stability of colors, and a modern, contemporary rendering.
Career
Since 2014, David Law has participated in about twenty contemporary art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also a dedicated photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. Alongside his visual work, he develops an authorial practice and is a musician, including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a comic book, a photo book, and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer and guitarist, he currently performs with the group FRENZY.
