Takashi Fukushima (São Paulo, 1950) is a Brazilian-Japanese artist. He is a painter, graphic artist, draftsman, and set designer. He is the son of the renowned artist Tikashi Fukushima (1920–2001), one of Brazil’s leading abstract painters.

He studied architecture at the University of São Paulo (FAU/USP).
In 1973 and 1975 he participated in the São Paulo International Biennial, where he won a purchase prize in 1975.
In 1990 he studied at the Tokyo University of the Arts on a grant from the Japan Foundation.
Besides his work as a visual artist, he also designed stage sets for theatre productions and won several awards for that.

His style

Takashi Fukushima is known for his still, poetic landscapes. His paintings often show:

subtle transitions of light and color;
a nearly cosmic or dreamlike atmosphere;
a blend of Japanese aesthetics and Brazilian modern art;
themes such as nature, space, and the relationship between humanity and the universe.

Influences

Although strongly influenced by his father, Takashi developed his own style. While Tikashi Fukushima became known mainly for his lyrical abstract painting, Takashi focuses more on landscapes and atmospheric compositions in which science, nature, and spirituality come together.
