Description from the seller
Raúl Recio — Original Work on Paper, 2000
Raúl Recio (b. 1965, Santo Domingo) is an important figure in contemporary Dominican art, recognized for a distinctive visual language that combines drawing, painting, symbolism, irony and elements of Caribbean identity and culture. His work has been exhibited in the Dominican Republic and internationally, and his practice includes significant works on paper.
This original work on paper, dated 2000 and signed “R. Recio,” comes from an especially interesting period of the artist’s career. Measuring 28 × 37.5 cm, the intimate scale gives the work the character of a highly personal drawing while retaining the expressive and immediately recognizable qualities associated with Recio’s practice.
The provenance is particularly notable. The work was originally given directly by Raúl Recio to the current owner’s maternal aunt, a close personal friend of the artist, and was subsequently gifted by her to the present owner. This direct artist-to-recipient provenance is an unusual and compelling aspect of the work and can be documented by a signed provenance statement from the original recipient.
Unlike a later reproduction or commercially acquired print, this is presented as a unique, personally gifted original work, created and signed by the artist in 2000. Its combination of early-2000s dating, original execution, artist signature, direct personal provenance and Dominican contemporary-art context makes it an appealing opportunity for collectors interested in Recio, Dominican art and works on paper.
The work is offered with photographic documentation of the artwork, signature and date.
