Description from the seller
THERE IS ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD - EDITION 1/1
With this square-format work, Medsan brings the DeLorean DMC-12 from Back to the Future into the tradition of blue-and-white porcelain and of kintsugi. The time machine of Robert Zemeckis, doors open like butterfly wings, is painted in cobalt as a motif reminiscent of Arita or Delft, beneath the Hill Valley clock tower frozen at the fateful hour. The trails of flame, the electric arcs of the flux capacitor and the road’s vanishing lines complete the citation, while the entire surface is crisscrossed by a network of cracks joined with gold.
The treatment plays on two distinct ceramic registers. The decor is executed in cobalt blue under a wash, with fine brushstrokes, shading that models the stainless-steel body, the grille and the rims; the DE LOREAN lettering remains legible on the side. On this ivory, crazed background, a very fine brown crosshatching runs everywhere, while major fractures are outlined with thick, bulging gold lacquer, in line with maki-e as applied to kintsugi. Vermilion flames and spiraling scrolls introduce the only warm color, borrowed from the cloud and wave motifs of Japanese prints.
The mashup says one simple, strong thing: time breaks objects, and gold makes them more precious. A car designed to abolish chronology is inscribed in a material that, itself, keeps the memory of every impact. Kintsugi refuses to erase the fracture and makes it the subject; here it transforms an accident into a golden map that runs across the body, the tower and the road. The icon of the 1980s becomes an acknowledged relic, repaired rather than restored.
A piece that is both graphic and contemplative, ideal for adding a pop, Japanese-influenced touch to a collector’s interior who cherishes objects that tell their own story.

About the Atelier:
Atelier Joconde is a workshop of artists gathered around a living, plural contemporary creation. Installed as a true center of artistic production, the studio operates both in collective creation and in individual approaches, depending on projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. Alongside him, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo pursues a more instinctive approach, blending abstract art, outsider art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, created and supervised within the studio, with a shared artistic standard and a unique identity for each artist.
