Description from the seller
ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD EXISTS - EDITION 1/1
With this square-format work, Medsan calls forth the absolute icon of Japanese science fiction: Kaneda Shōtarō and his red motorcycle, central figure of Akira, the manga by Katsuhiro Ōtomo published from 1982 and its 1988 animated adaptation. The scarlet jacket, the red capsule launched at full speed, and the Neo-Tokyo skyline on the horizon are gathered in a single image-manifesto. The gold-leaf background evokes the byōbu screens and fusuma of the Kanō school, where gold powder served as a luminous void rather than a decor.
The treatment blends screen printing poster and printmaking: solid color fields outlined by a thick black line, off-white blanks reserved for the chromes and exhaust, shadows treated as solid silhouettes. The palette tightens to three values — vermilion red, ink black, crackled gold — punctuated by the cyan trail from the reactor, the only cool note in the composition. The support imitates aged kinpaku, with its cracks, leaf joints, and wear, like a poster pasted up and forgotten. At the bottom left, a vertical red cartouche bears 東梅道 surmounted by the signature メドサン, like an emblem stamp of a print.
Kaneda’s motorcycle has become the symbol of youth reckless with the future, in a city on the brink of collapse. Placed on a gold background — the material of religious icons and court screens — Medsan elevates the pop-cult object to the rank of sacred relic. The gaze the character casts over his shoulder, just before the skid, transforms the image into a suspended instant rather than a mere race.
A nerveful, graphic piece, ideal for bringing a cyberpunk and Japandi touch to a contemporary collector’s interior devoted to the great icons of visual culture.

About the Atelier:
Atelier Joconde is a collective of artists around a living, plural contemporary creation. Established as a true production space, the atelier operates both in collective creation and individual approaches, depending on projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. By his side, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo pursues a more instinctive search, blending abstract art, brut art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, realized, and supervised within the atelier, with a shared artistic standard and each artist’s own identity.
